HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team was defeated on day two of their spring break trip in South Carolina, falling to the Union Dutchmen in a long, hard-fought matchup.
The Dutchmen took an early 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play, but it did not come easy as all three tandems for the Vikings secured at least five points in the match. The pairs of
Leonardo Panosso/
Arthur Hermange and
Justin Cassens/Eliot St. Paul were both defeated 8-5 in the No. 1 and 3 positions, while
Gabriel Luna/
Kyle Boudreau fell 8-6 at No. 2.
Augie grabbed wins in the top two singles slots, but the rest of the matches went in favor of Union. Hermange defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1, while Panosso earned a well-fought back-and-forth affair at No. 2 by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (9). The four singles wins for the Dutchmen gave them the 7-2 victory over the Vikings.
With the loss, Augustana drops to 1-8 on the season. The team will be back in action tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. CST against the Lawrence Vikings.
