ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Viking men's lacrosse (4-2) put together a complete performance earlier this afternoon with a 15-3 victory over Marian. The Vikings had excellent performances from their offense and defense in Saturday's win.
The first period was the most competitive of the day with a total of five goals between the two teams. Both teams traded scores with the Vikings'
Brady Holtz striking first after a
Sam Shaver assist. Trevor Stachowski scored for the Sabres to tie the game before Holtz put one through again to regain the lead. The score was tied again when Marian's Vanderhoofven delivered a score before Augie took the lead for what would eventually be the final time on a
Mark Teschke goal.
The remainder of the game was dominated by Augustana as the Vikings scored four goals in all three remaining periods. Marian managed another goal in the fourth, but the deficit was far too wide to challenge the hosts.
Mark Teschke had another phenomenal outing with six goals in 18 shotss on the day. Holtz,
Matt Pierson, and
Carson Ghys also scored multiple goals while Ghys and Holtz both added two assists each.
The Vikings featured two goalies in net as
Cameron Duffy saved six Marian shots in the winning effort.
Gus Magnusson also saw time in goal and allowed one score.
Augie men's lacrosse will hit the road for their next game on Saturday, Mar. 26 when they visit Alma College in Michigan.
