Baseball improves to 10-3 after defeat of Coe College

Boushele strikes out 11 Kohawks for second-straight win

ORLANDO, Fla. – Augustana baseball (10-3) reached the double-digit mark in the win column earlier today with a 9-5 defeat of Coe College. The Vikings beat the Kohawks for their second win in as many days and their fourth win in a row.

Augustana began the scoring in the first inning with a Kyle Campbell sacrifice fly that plated Jacob Barker. The Vikings continued to score early and often, bringing two more runs across on an Alex Simon single in the second inning and a Chase Maifield sac fly in the third.

Trailing 4-0, Coe finally fought back with a big third inning. The Kohawks' TJ Johnson singled two runs in to cut the deficit in half before Jacob Brosius and Johnson came home on an error and a wild pitch to tie the game.

After three scoreless frames, Augustana retaliated to regain the lead in the sixth inning, a lead that they would not give up again. Matt Ozanic brought two runs across on a double to the gap. Simon then scored in the eighth inning to extend the Vikings' lead to 7-5.

Coe managed another run in their half of the eighth before a Kohawk error gave Augie their final insurance run as the Vikings reached the final score of 9-5.

Augustana's lead-off man Jacob Barker scored two runs to lead the Viking offense. Barker, along with six other Augie players recorded a hit in Saturday's contest.

Harrison Boushele earned his second victory in as many starts on the mound. The Augustana right-hander threw 7.1 innings and struck out 11 Coe hitters while walking just four and giving up only two earned runs.

The Vikings will continue play tomorrow, Sunday, Mar. 20, with a morning matchup versus Southern Maine.
