WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Augustana baseball (11-3) won their third game in as many days on Sunday morning with a decisive 15-2 victory over the Southern Maine Huskies (3-8). Augustana saw little resistance at the plate as they put together four multi-run innings and held USM to just five hits and two runs.
Augustana started the scoring in the top of the first inning with a
Kyle Campbell sacrifice fly to score
Jacob Barker. After a scoreless second,
Brett Benedetti added to the Vikings' early advantage with a two-RBI single.
Alec McGinnis did some more damage in the third by driving in two more runs on a double.
The middle innings were just as productive for Augustana with eight total runs between the fourth, fifth, and sixth frames.
Alex Simon started that portion of the game with a solo shot home run in the fourth and was followed by
Kyle Wise's single to score Campbell. The Viking offense continued to put pressure on the Southern Maine fielders which resulted in
Matt Helms scoring on a passed ball and driving one in after being hit by pitch. The Vikings finished the middle frames as they started with an RBI groundout by
Zachary Vrbancic and a two-RBI single off the bat of Barker.
The Vikings plated two more runs, which were eventually their final of the contests, in seventh on another hit batsman and a sacrifice fly. Southern Maine put together a solid seventh inning with an RBI single and fielder's choice but could not claw back into contention.
Barker and Benedetti led the Viking offense on Sunday as both went 3-for-4 with a combined four runs scored and four driven in. Simon also had a solid day at the dish going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Josh Wintroub earned his second victory of the year with six strikeout, two walks, and just two runs allowed in 6.2 innings.
Augie baseball will continue their Florida schedule on Tuesday, Mar. 22 with a game against Union College of New York.
