ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team dropped a CCIW home game on Saturday to the Millikin Big Blue, falling by a score of 2-1 at Thorson-Lucken Field.
The Vikings has a strong first half, pressuring the Millikin defense, taking a total of seven shots before Liesl Whitener connected on an assist from Samira Khobdeh in the 24th minute to give Augustana a 1-0 lead. The goal was Whitener's seventh of the season. The Vikings' shot total reached 11 in the opening 45 minutes, but the lone goal stood as the game's only score as Augie led 1-0 at halftime.
Augustana came back strong on offense early in the second half, totaling three shot attempts in the first seven minutes, but were met by a Millikin goal in the 54th minute when Bailee Blecker took a pass from Payton Dominguez and found the back of the net. Blecker continued to cause problems for the Viking defense, taking two more shots before cashing in with her second goal of the day in the 66th minute. Millikin held on to the 2-1 lead all the way to the end despite a 20-8 shot margin in favor of Augustana.
Whitener posted a team-high eight shots for the Vikings, while Lexi Dominguez added three, all on goal.
With the loss, Augie drops to 6-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the CCIW. The Vikings will stay at home for their next contest, a match against conference foe Elmhurst on October 12. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
