Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Vikings lose in closing seconds to Illinois Wesleyan

Augie had success offensively, but fell in the contest 3-2

ROCK ISLAND -- Augustana men's soccer returned to Thorson-Lucken Field for a rain-filled affair against the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Wednesday night, losing the contest 3-2.

Jimmie Kucaba got momentum going early for the Vikings, sending the first goal of the contest into the back of the net in minute eight. The score marked Kucaba's first goal of his collegiate career. The Titans evened the score at the 20:49 mark 1-1, but then pulled ahead just four minutes later off the foot of Gavin Smith to make the contest 2-1. That score remained going into the half, where the Vikings would swap to goalkeeper Frankie Baio. Baio's insertion to the game marked his second bit of action this season.

The Vikings fired back in the second half of play at 67:30, with Jarrett Baumgartner sending a shot off his right foot into the net. Baumgartner's first goal of the season was assisted by Matias Bidegaray off a free kick just seconds earlier. The contest sat at a 2-2 score until there were 22 seconds left to play. The Titans sent a shot past Baio, sealing the game with a 2-3 final in favor of Illinois Wesleyan.

Augustana remains at Thorson-Lucken Field for their next contest against Millikin on October 8. Live stream information for Saturday can be found here.
