Women's soccer secures 1-1 draw with North Central

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to five games on Wednesday, ending in a 1-1 tie with the visiting North Central Cardinals.

The Augie defense shined in the opening half, fending off 11 North Central shots, who entered Wednesday ranked third in the latest regional rankings and receiving votes nationally. Seven of the Cardinal's first half shots were saved by Janey Castoe to help bring the game to a scoreless tie after 45 minutes of action.

The score remained without a goal for over 35 minutes into the second half until the Vikings broke the deadlock with the game's first goal. Lexi Dominguez snuck one across the line after a chaotic play in front of the net to give Augie a 1-0 advantage with less than ten minutes to go. North Central evened the game up in the 87th minute and the two teams played the remaining minutes out with the score intact.

The Cardinals out-shot the Vikings 19-4, with Castoe ending her night with 11 saves.

With the result, Augustana finishes the regular season with a 9-5-4 record and 3-2-3 mark in the CCIW. The team will be the No. 5 seed in the upcoming CCIW Tournament and will visit No. 4 seeded Carroll on Saturday, October 29 at 6:00 p.m. The teams played to a scoreless tie this past Wednesday in Waukesha.
