WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team saw their season come to an end on Saturday in the CCIW Tournament quarterfinals, falling on the road to the Carroll Pioneers by a score of 1-0 in overtime.
One week after playing to a scoreless tie against one another, the two teams could not find the back of the net after 90 minutes of play as they needed overtime to decide their conference tournament matchup. Carroll held an 8-3 advantage in shots through 45 minutes of action, missing a point-blank opportunity early when a shot at a wide-open net hit off of the crossbar to keep the game tied at 0-0.
Janey Castoe grabbed two of her three saves in the first half to help keep the game scoreless.
The opportunities in the second half were equal as each team mustered just three shots, one on target. The two teams ran out of time in regulation and for the first time this season due to new NCAA rules headed into an overtime session. Just over eight minutes into the first half of overtime, Carroll's Elizabeth Weinberg sent one into the back of the net for the first and only goal of the contest. The Vikings had another 10-minute period to try and even things up, but went without a shot attempt in the final frame.
Liesl Whitener,
Maeve Sheridan, and
Kayla Garcia all had two shots apiece for the Vikings.
Augustana's season ends with a 9-6-4 overall record. It is the 20th winning record in the last 21 seasons for the Vikings.
