ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team was victorious in a non-conference matchup with the Adrian Bulldogs on Saturday, winning by a score of 2-0 from Thorson-Lucken Field.
Less than nine minutes into the game,
Maeve Sheridan broke the scoreless tie with the first goal of the day for the Vikings, collecting a missed shot and sending it ino the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. The 1-0 lead remained firm for the remainder of the first half as the Vikings doubled up the Bulldogs in shots, 6-3, after 45 minutes of action.
The two teams were nearly even in the second half in the shots category, with Adrian holding a slight advantage at 7-6. Augie earned an insurance goal in the 70th minute as
Kim Vulic notched her fourth score of the season on a pass from
Samira Khobdeh. The Vikings closed out the game with the 2-0 win.
Sheridan led Augustana with a team-high three shots in the contest.
Janey Castoe had six saves to help lead the Vikings to their fourth shutout win of the season.
Augustana improves to 8-5-2 overall with the victory. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, October 19 when they visit the Wheaton Thunder on the road. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Wheaton, Ill.
