ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Carroll Pioneers entered today's game with the best record in the CCIW at 7-1-1 but left with another blemish. Augustana and Carroll battled through 90 full minutes and almost an entire overtime period before the Vikings scored the first, and only, goal of the game.
 
In regulation, the Pioneers' attack was fierce with 12 total shots compared to Augie's six, but the Viking defense was stout and weathered the occasional storm. Janey Castoe led the Augustana defensive effort with seven total saves, one in O.T. and six others in regulation.
 
In the extra period, with less than a minute on the clock, Liesel Whitener collected a pass from Carson Kekelik in the box and poked a shot around the Pioneer keeper to find the back of the net. Today's goal was the second of the season for Whitener.
 
The Vikings will continue their CCIW schedule next week for their next contest. On Wednesday, Sept. 29, Wheaton will visit Thorson-Lucken Field for a 7:00 P.M. tilt.
