ROCK ISLAND, ILL. – The Augustana women's soccer team started the 2021 season tonight with a 4-0 loss to the University of Chicago.
Augie battled the nationally-ranked Maroons throughout most of the first half before the first blood was drawn. Allison Embroski scored the game's first goal after an assist by Skye Davis. Embroski's goal came in the 44
th-minute just before the halftime break.
After the half, Chicago expanded their advantage with a trio of goals. In the 55
th-minute, Hannah Rittenhouse found the back of the net. Just a few minutes later, in the 58
th, Peyton Jefferson joined the Maroons' scoring celebration. Finally, Adriana Shutler put the final nail in the coffin with a 78
th-minute goal.
The University of Chicago ladies enjoyed not only a goals advantage, but also a wide shots margin. The Maroons outshot Augustana 23-4, and blanked the Vikings in corner kicks 4-0.
The Vikings' four shots came from
Anna Bross,
Kayla Garcia,
Melanie Parker, and
Alex Dominguez. Dominguez' shot was the only on goal for Augustana.
Augie will continue their non-conference slate with another home contest. The Vikings will host the Greenville University Panthers on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 11 A.M.
