Vikings drop season finale at Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – Lulu Hardy scored four goals Sunday to lead the University of Chicago to a 20-0 win over Augustana at Stagg Field. The Vikings wrap up the 2021 season with records of 5-9 overall and 0-5 in the CCIW. The host Maroons move on to conference tournament play at 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the league.

Hardy scored all of her goals in the first 21 minutes as Chicago went up 9-0. Katie Large's second of three goals triggered the running clock with 9:37 left in the first half. The Maroons eventually took a 14-0 advantage to the halftime break.

Chicago goalie Emily Fiegen recorded first-half saves on shots by junior Kathryn Hettiger (Carmel HS, Carmel, Ind.) and senior Margaret Cecilio (Archbishop Mitty HS, San Jose, Calif.) before being relieved by Kat Berritto in the second half.

Six different Maroons scored in the second stanza. Lizzie Huesman's goal with 2:22 to play accounted for the final.

Cecilio controlled a team-high three draws for Augustana and senior Elizabeth Cook (Minooka HS, Joliet, Ill.) collected three ground balls. Senior Courtney Veitch (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) recorded 15 saves in goal.
