Augustana rolls 18-4 at Edgewood

VERONA, Wis. – Senior Sandra Pielechaty (Taft HS, Chicago, Ill.) and junior Margaret Cecilio (Archbishop Mitty HS, San Jose, Calif.) combined for 12 goals and seven assists Tuesday to lead Augustana to an 18-4 win over Edgewood at Reddan Park. The Vikings evened their record at 4-4 on the year, while the host Eagles fell to 0-3.

Cecilio assisted on Sydney Rector's (Fishers HS, Fishers, Ind.) goal a minute and a half in as Augustana went up 1-0. Pielechaty was credited with the helper on the Vikings' next score, which came from junior Kathryn Hettiger (Carmel HS, Carmel, Ind.). Sophomore Sinclaire Lucero (Helix HS, Lemon Grove, Ill.) and Cecilio added goals 24 seconds apart to make it 4-0.

After Kendra Sanderfoot got Edgewood on the board with a goal at 18:36 of the first half, the guests closed the period with eight consecutive tallies. Pielechaty accounted for four of those and Cecilio three, with Hettiger providing the other, as Augustana took a 12-1 lead to intermission.

Pielechaty scored 11 seconds into the second half and later added two more goals. Hettiger, Cecilio and Lucero each had a second half goal as well.

Pielechaty finished the night with seven goals and three assists. Cecilio scored five times and had team highs of four assists, five ground balls and seven draw controls. Hettiger added three goals.

Sanderfoot scored twice for Edgewood.

Senior goalie Courtney Veitch (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) turned away five Eagle shots, while her counterpart, Alexis Vogt, made 11 saves.
