Vikings whitewash Scots 15-0

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana recorded the 10th shutout in program history Wednesday, defeating Monmouth 15-0 in a St. Patrick's Day matchup at Thorson-Lucken Field. Coach C.J. Holder's club improved to 3-3 on the year, while the visiting Scots fell to 0-2.

Junior Kathryn Hettiger (Carmel HS, Carmel, Ind.) tallied the first two scores of the evening in the opening five minutes. Sophomore Cassidy Petrie (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) and junior Margaret Cecilio (Archbishop Mitty HS, San Jose, Calif.) each added a pair of goals in the next six minutes to give Augustana a 6-0 advantage with 19½ minutes remaining in the first half.

Cecilio scored her third of the night before Sydney Rector (Fishers HS, Fishers, Ind.) got in the scoring act at the 13-minute mark. Hettiger scored consecutive goals, with the second triggering a running clock with seven minutes left in the half. Senior Sandra Pielechaty (Taft HS, Chicago, Ill.) and freshman Brooke Borchart (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) got on the board in the final five minutes and the Vikings took a 12-0 lead to intermission.

Rector and Petrie scored in the first 6½ minutes of the second half and senior Ariel Gonsowski-Padron (Zion-Benton HS, Zion, Ill.) scored her first career goal off a Pielechaty assist with 22 minutes left to complete the night's scoring.

On the night, Hettiger led the way with four goals and Cecilio and Petrie added three apiece. Pielechaty had a pair of assists. Cecilio controlled seven draws and senior Elizabeth Cook (Minooka HS, Joliet, Ill.) snared four ground balls.

Senior Courtney Veitch (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) recorded three saves in goal.

The Vikings are back at Thorson-Lucken on Sunday, March 21, hosting Southwestern (TX) in an 11:00 a.m. contest.
