Vikings deliver two late-game goals in women's soccer victory at Elmhurst

Augustana moves to 8-6 overall

ELMHURST, Ill. – Augustana women's soccer (8-6, 4-3) recovered from a first-half deficit to earn a pivotal victory at Elmhurst (4-7-1, 1-3-1) tonight.
 
The host Bluejays garnered the first score of the game midway through the first half. In the 21st-minute, Gabby Ketola gave Elmhurst the lead with her sixth goal of the season after assists from Hannah Bacon and Lauryn Wesoloski.
 
The Bluejays held on to their lead through the halftime break until Augustana struck with a goal of their own. Liesl Whitener lined up a penalty kick in the 58th-minute and buried her fourth goal of the season to tie the match.
 
The 1-1 tally was maintained until the clock hit zeros.
 
In the overtime period, nearly ten minutes ticked off before Whitener struck a corner kick that caromed off Kayla Garcia and found the back of the net.
 
Augustana outshot Elmhurst 22-12 overall and 14-9 in shots on goal. Whitener was very active for the Vikings with both goals and eight total shots. Carson Kekelik attempted three shots while Maeve Sheridan, Kayla Garcia, and Abby DeGustino made two each.
 
In goal for Augie, Janey Castoe played the entire 100 minutes and recorded eight saves.
 
Augustana will be on the road again for their next game. The Vikings will visit Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday, Oct. 26 for their final match away from home.
