ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team was defeated at home Wednesday night in a non-conference matchup with the UW-Platteville Pioneers, falling by a score of 3-0 on Senior Night at Thorson-Lucken Field.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie after 45 minutes of action despite the Pioneers holding a large differential in the shots category at 11-4 in the first half. Frankie Baio had a busy opening frame, stopping four UW-Platteville shots to help keep the visitors off of the scoreboard. Augustana had four shots in the opening half, two of which were on target, but the score remained 0-0 heading into intermission.

The first score of the game came quickly from the Pioneers, punching one into the net less than two minutes into the second half. UW-Platteville added their second score of the game just four minutes later to make it 2-0, eventually tallying the third and final of the contest in the 80th minute. The Pioneers mirrored their first half production in shots with 11, while the Vikings saw just two in the second half. Baio added four more saves to make it eight total for the game.

Hannes Hemgren had two shots to lead Augie. Jarrett Baumgartner and Sebastian Gabrielson each had one on goal.

With the loss, Augustana falls to 4-9 on the season. The team will hit the road for another non-conference matchup on Saturday, October 23 when they take on the UW-Whitewater Warhawks. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Whitewater, Wis.
