ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana women's soccer (7-5, 3-2) took care of the Coe Kohawks (2-10-1, 1-3) in a narrow 1-0 victory.
Despite the near severe weather earlier in the day, the torrential rain subsided in time for kick-off at 5 p.m. After the game began, both teams probed through the first half and went into halftime knotted in a scoreless affair.
Just after the second half commenced,
Maeve Sheridan collected a pass from
Abby DeGustino and deposited the ball in the back of the net. Sheridan's 48
th-minute score was her second of the season.
Other than the one score, goalkeeping was the shining star for both teams. For the Vikings,
Janey Castoe benefitted from an excellent team defensive performance and recorded one save. On the other end, Alex Montalbano made six total saves for Coe.
Augustana led Coe in total shots by a 20-7 overall and 7-1 in shots on goal. The Vikings also attempted three corner kicks to the Kohawks' zero.
Augie will be on the road for their next three matches. The Vikings will be at Illinois Wesleyan this Saturday, Oct. 16.
