to Trine at Thorson-Lucken Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.—For the third time in as many home games this year, Augustana fell in a tight contest Saturday to a strong program. Trine took the lead midway through the second quarter and held on for an 11-9 victory at Thorson-Lucken Field. The Vikings dropped to 1-5 on the season, while the visiting Thunder remained unbeaten at 4-0.

Augustana went up by a goal three times early, with Trine responding with the equalizer each time.

Sam Shaver (Kettle Moraine HS, Delafield, Wis.) started the day's scoring with a man-up goal off a Trever Moore (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) assist 4½ minutes in. Trine's Tyler Corless tied it at the seven-minute mark of the first quarter and Viking John Calabrese (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) answered 30 seconds later to put the hosts up 2-1. Brennan Battle's goal tied it a 2-2 after one period.

The Vikings took their final lead on Dylan Drawer's (Conant HS, Roselle, Ill.) goal at 13:19 of the second quarter, but Battle scored at 12:23 to tie it and the Thunder took its first lead on an Andrew Douglas goal at the 8:23 mark. Battle parlayed a Corless assist into a goal that put Trine up 5-3 with five minutes left in the half. Moore and Douglas traded goals in the final 2½ minutes and the Thunder took a 6-4 edge to the halftime break.

After Steve Robertson's (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) goal in the first minute of the third quarter cut Augustana's deficit to 6-5, Trine tallied three straight goals to take control. Douglas assisted on all three, with Matt Zanichelli, Cabe Maskevich and Zach Anderson finishing them off. Robertson and Drawer scored in the final 2½ minutes of the period to pull the Vikings to within 9-7 after three.

With 12:40 to play, Robertson scored off a Shane Forsythe (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) assist to get the hosts within a goal, but Maskevich scored midway through the period and Douglas added another insurance goal with 2:45 remaining. Drawer's goal with 1:16 left made it 11-9, but Augustana got off just one shot in the final minute and it was turned away by Thunder goalie Anthony Marasco.

The Vikings held statistical advantages in shots (43-33), shots on goal (23-16) and ground balls (36-32), committed fewer turnovers (22-25) and succeeded on 16 of 17 clears to 18 of 22 for their guests. Trine captured 13 of 25 faceoffs.

Individually, Robertson and Drawer led the way with three goals apiece. Moore had three assists. Calabrese won 11 of 22 faceoffs and led Augustana with six ground balls. Matthew Jarzynski (Detroit Catholic Central HS, Northville, Mich.) finished with a team-high four caused turnovers. Douglas had three goals and three assists for the Thunder.

Tommy Angelos (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) went 57 minutes in goal, recording five saves. His counterpart, Marasco, stopped 14 Viking shots.

Next up for Coach Dan Torie's squad is a Wednesday, March 11 date with Benedictine in Lisle, Illinois.
