LISLE, Ill.—Benedictine took control with five straight second-quarter goals Wednesday and went on to defeat Augustana 14-9 at the Sports Complex. The Vikings dropped to 1-6 on the year, while the Eagles improved to 5-1.

Augustana jumped out to a 3-0 lead on goals by John Calabrese (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.), Trever Moore (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) and Robert Kibble (Pacific Ridge HS, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.). Nic Perkins' goal cut Benedictine's deficit to 3-1 after the first quarter.

The Vikings still led 4-2 after Perkins and Shane Forsythe (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) traded goals to start the second quarter. However, another Perkins tally—this one with the Eagles up a man—sparked a 5-0 Benedictine run to close the half. Colin Domek's second goal in a row sent the hosts to intermission with a 7-4 advantage.

In the third quarter, Forsythe and Dylan Drawer (Conant HS, Roselle, Ill.) sandwiched goals around one from Eagle Anthony Leahy before Benedictine extended its lead to 11-6 with three consecutive scores. A Drawer goal pulled Augustana to within 11-7 after three quarters.

Goals by Mateo Salceda, Perkins and Joe Spahn put the Eagles up 14-7 before Shaver and Moore found the back of the net to complete the night's scoring.

Moore, Forsythe and Drawer each scored twice for Coach Dan Torie's club. Calabrese won 13 of 22 faceoffs and grabbed  a game-high seven ground balls. Matt Pierson (Montini HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) caused a pair of turnovers and goalie Tommy Angelos (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) made nine first-half saves before being relieved by Cameron Duffy (Glenbrook South HS, Glenview, Ill.).

Perkins finished with a game-high four goals for Benedictine. Evan Kilbane recorded 10 saves in 51 minutes in goal.

The Eagles had advantages of 48-38 in shots, 28-22 in shots on goal and 42-30 in ground balls. The Vikings committed 21 turnovers to 16 for Benedictine.
