Cornell in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa—Augustana rolled to an 11-0 lead after three quarters Wednesday on its way to a 13-4 win over Cornell at Van Metre Field. The Vikings picked up their first win after four losses, while the Rams fell to 1-1 on the season.

Junior Trever Moore (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored off a Sam Shaver (Kettle Moraine HS, Delafield, Wis.) assist less than a minute in to give Coach Damn Torie's club a 1-0 lead. Although Augustana outshot its hosts 15-3 in the remainder of the first period, the Vikings couldn't extend their advantage.

The flood gates opened in the second quarter. Sophomore Mark Teschke (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) scored with an assist from classmate Matt Pierson (Montini HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) after a half-minute. Pierson's goal 2½ minutes later made it 3-0 and Moore added three in a span of slightly more than three minutes to give Augustana a 6-0 lead midway through the period. Shaver assisted on a Shane Forsythe (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) goal in the final 30 seconds and the Vikings led 7-0 at the halftime break.

Teschke scored twice in the third quarter and Steve Robertson (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) and John Calabrese (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) added goals as well to stretch the advantage to 11-0. Freshman Matteo Uccelli (Gulliver Prep, Miami, Fla.) dished out his second and third assists of the night.

Cornell got on the board on a Kyle Jussila goal with 9:21 left in the game. After Brendan Langmack's goal made it 11-2, freshman Robert Kibble (Pacific Ridge HS, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) and Teschke finished off Augustana's scoring for the evening. Tallies by Jussila and John Linderman in the last 2:14 accounted for the final.

The Vikings dominated statistically. Their 66 shots and 55 ground balls equaled the fifth and seventh-best single-game totals, respectively, in program history. The Rams managed just 16 shots and 17 ground balls. Augustana also committed only 12 turnovers to Cornell's 30 and won 13 of 20 faceoffs.

Teschke finished with four goals, two assists and seven ground balls. Moore scored four times as well. Uccelli had three assists and Robertson and Shaver added a pair each. Calabrese collected a game-high nine ground balls. Pierson and goalie Tommy Angelos (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) paced the defensive effort. Pierson caused five turnovers and Angelos turned in a scoreless first half, making five saves to earn the win.

Elliot Smith recorded 20 saves in goal for the Rams.
