Jake Huber had two hits Saturday
but Augustana fell 11-5 to Brandeis
in Winter Haven, Florida.
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Brandeis scored nine runs in the first two innings Saturday and coasted to an 11-5 win over Augustana at Chain of Lakes Stadium. The Vikings fell to 1-1 on the season, while the Judges improved to 5-0.
Victor Oppenheimer and Tommy Sand each had a two-run double as Brandeis touched Augustana starter
Josh Wintroub (Heritage HS, Littleton, Colo.) for four runs in the top of the first.
After the Vikings left two runners stranded in the bottom half, the Judges tacked on five runs in the top of the second. Luke Hall and Oppenheimer both had two-run singles in the frame.
While his teammates were putting runs up, Brandeis starter Greg Tobin handcuffed Augustana through six innings. He gave up just two hits and two walks while fanning seven before leaving with that 9-0 lead.
After the Judges went up 10-0 with a run in the top of the seventh, freshman
Joe Marcucci (Rolling Meadows HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) had a one-out triple and scored the Vikings' first run in the bottom half.
Oppenheimer's big day continued with an RBI double in the top of the eighth and freshman
Jaden Dellitt singled in an Augustana run in the bottom of the inning.
Kyle Wise (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) knocked in two runs with a single in the ninth.
Jake Huber (Lockport HS, Homer Glen, Ill.) had two of the Vikings seven hits. Wintroub (0-1) gave up four hits and six runs in an inning and a third and took the loss. Tobin earned the win.
