Augustana and Buena Vista play to tie

klaber vs bv inside
Senior Jeremy Klaber recorded five saves in
Monday's 1-1 tie at Buena Vista.

STORM LAKE, Iowa – Augustana and Buena Vista each tallied a second-half goal Monday, but neither could find the back of the net in overtime and the sides settled for a 1-1 tie at Peterson Field. Coach Mick Regan's Vikings moved to 0-1-1 on the season, while the host Beavers played to their second tie in as many matches.

Augustana outshot its hosts 11-1 in the opening half, putting seven on frame. However, BV keeper Manuel Aguilar was up to the task and kept the Vikings off the scoreboard. Augustana senior keeper Jeremy Klaber (Stevenson HS, Buffalo Grove, Ill.) stopped the only shot he faced in the first half.

In the 60th minute, Eugenio Rosiles' goal gave Buena Vista a 1-0 lead. Dylan Eggleston was credited with the assist.

The Vikings benefitted from a Buena Vista own goal to tie the match in the 79th minute.

Eggleston had an attempt hit the crossbar in the 86th minute and Klaber turned away two more Beaver shots in the final five minutes of regulation to keep the score level. Augustana got off all five shots in the two overtime sessions, but two were off target and Aguilar stopped the other three.

Klaber logged all 110 minutes in goal for the Vikings, recording five saves. Aguilar went the distance as well and stopped a dozen Augustana shots.

Regan's bunch finished with a 25-11 edge in shots, putting 13 on frame to six for Buena Vista. The Vikings took all eight corners in the match.

On Saturday, September 7, Augustana travels to DePere, Wisconsin to face St. Norbert at 1:00 p.m.
