Jeremy Klaber had eight saves in
Augustana's 2-0 loss at North Park
Saturday.
CHICAGO, Ill. – Pedar Olsen scored early in each half Saturday to lead North Park to a 2-0 win over Augustana at the Holmgren Athletic Complex. Coach
Mick Regan's Vikings fell to 2-4-1 overall and 0-1 in the CCIW. The Vikings from Chicago, who were ranked 18th in the nation before an upset loss at Kalamazoo last week, improved to 6-3 on the season and 1-0 in the league.
Olsen's first goal, his ninth of the season, came in the third minute. Arian Cindahl and Gianfranco DeCarne were credited with the assists. NPU outshot its guests 13-1 in the first half, but took the narrowest of leads to the locker room.
North Park got some insurance in the 57th minute. Olsen parlayed assists from Patrick Knap and William Sandkvist into his 10th goal of the season and a 2-0 lead. Augustana squeezed off three shots in the final eight minutes of the match, but one was wide, one was blocked and NPU keeper Mathias Stulen turned away
Matt Allen's (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) last-gasp try in the final minute.
The hosts finished with a 29-5 edge in shots and a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. They took four corners, to two for Augustana. Each team was whistled for 13 fouls, but the visitors received all three cautions issued.
Augustana senior keeper
Jeremy Klaber (Stevenson HS, Buffalo Grove, Ill.) recorded a season-high eight saves, while Stulen finished with three.
Next time out, Augustana will contend for the Viking-Warhawk Cup with Wisconsin-Whitewater. The sides will square off for the cup at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1 in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The Warhawks claimed the cup with a 2-1 win last season after Augustana had held it for the first two years of its existence.
