game-winning goal Saturday in
Augustana's 2-1 OT over Carroll
at Thorson-Lucken Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Senior Matt Allen (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) scored 18 seconds into the first overtime Saturday to give Coach Mick Regan's Augustana squad a 2-1 win over Carroll at Thorson-Lucken Field. The Vikings improved to 3-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in the CCIW, while the Pioneers dropped to 6-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Less than a minute into overtime, junior Salah Aghlaf (Sabrine HS, Casablanca, Morocco) took the ball from a Carroll player near midfield and served it ahead to a racing Allen. Allen collected the pass just inside the box and his blast from slightly on the right side beat keeper Tyler Hanson just inside the left post for the game-winner. The goal was his second of the season.

The hosts grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute. Allen's cross from the right side deflected high off a Pioneer defender and junior Justin Murphy (Glenbard East HS, Lombard, Ill.) slipped in from the weak side and headed in Allen's pass for his first collegiate goal.

Carroll tied it in the 69th minute, when Augustana keeper Jeremy Klaber (Stevenson HS, Buffalo Grove, Ill.) was whistled for a foul in the box. Ryan Coughlin's penalty kick beat Klaber to his right side to level the score at 1-1.

The Vikings picked up the pace, getting off seven shots in the final 20 minutes of regulation, including a Murphy try in the 80th minute that hit the right post. They couldn't find the net however, and the match went to overtime.

The Pioneers finished with a 14-13 advantage in shots, but Augustana led in shots on goal (7-5) and corners (6-3). Carroll was called for 17 fouls and issued four cautions and the hosts for 15 and three, respectively.

Klaber made four saves and Hanson five.

On Saturday, October 12, Regan's side hosts Wheaton at Thorson-Lucken Field beginning at 7:30 p.m.
