1-0 win at Coe Saturday.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Matt Allen's (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) penalty-kick goal in the 33rd minute lifted Augustana to a 1-0 win over Coe Saturday at Clark Field. Coach
Mick Regan's squad won its second straight match to move to 2-2-1 on the year. The Kohawks fell to 4-4.
The Vikings controlled play early, piling up a 6-1 advantage in shots before Allen's penalty kick gave them the lead in the 33rd minute. As the sides went to intermission, Augustana had put five of 10 shots on frame to two of three for the hosts.
With 15 minutes remaining, the Vikings' edge in shots had grown to 15-4. However, the Kohawks picked up the pace and got off five attempts in the final 14 minutes. Senior keeper
Jeremy Klaber (Stevenson HS, Buffalo Grove, Ill.) turned away Matthew Joseph's header in minute 77.
Two of Coe's final three shots were blocked, including Kyree Morney's in the 84th minute—the final shot of the match.
The final shot totals were 15 for Augustana to nine for the hosts. The Vikings put six on goal and the Kohawks three. Coe had a 4-3 edge in corners. Augustana was whistled for 17 fouls to 10 for the Kohawks, although the hosts received the only two cautions in the match.
