ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Noah Lindner scored five goals Saturday, as Carthage downed Augustana 17-5 on Senior Day at Thorson-Lucken Field. The Vikings fell to 6-7 on the season and 1-1 in the CCIW, while the Red Men improved to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Five different Carthage players scored as the visitors bolted to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter. Colin Poitras got the Red Men on the board four minutes in Ethan Flight scored off a Andy Szun assist at the 8:37 mark to make it 2-0. Szun added two more assist in the period and Poitras had two as well.
Lindner scored twice in the second quarter, as Carthage added five more goals. Szun scored off a Poitras assist just before the halftime horn to give his team a 10-0 lead at intermission.
Lindner added the first two goals of the third quarter, the second coming with the Red Men a man up. Brody Ilstrup added another power-play goal and Carthage led 13-0 after three periods.
One of the seniors recognized before the game,
Erick Krall (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.), broke the Vikings' goose egg with a goal at 14:30 of the fourth quarter. Another, Lee Whorewell
(York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.), added a goal, as did sophomore
Trever Moore (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.). Freshman
Mark Teschke (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) had two, including the last of the contest, with less than a minute remaining.
The Red Men got goals from Szun, Tanner Jones and Emmett Sullivan in the final period.
Carthage had advantages of 55-28 in shots, 29-14 in shots on goal and 48-26 in ground balls.
Tommy Angelos (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) recorded eight saves in goal, but suffered the loss, falling to 4-3 on the year.
Other Augustana seniors recognized prior the game included
Jason Van Dyck (Crystal Lake South HS, Crustal Lake, Ill.) and
Matt Balara (St. Charles North HS, Elburn, Ill.).
