Despite Grace Sigler's seventh
goal of the season, Augustana fell
3-1 at Illinois Wesleyan Wednesday,
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Junior
Grace Sigler (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) gave Augustana the lead with an early goal Wednesday, but Illinois Wesleyan came back to post a 3-1 win. The Vikings dropped to 8-3-2 on the year and 3-3 in the CCIW, while the host Titans improved to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Sigler's team-leading seventh goal of the season came in the seventh minute and on Augustana's only shot of the first half.
IWU got the equalizer in the 10th minute when Erin Peck benefitted from a Rachel White assist to tally her second goal of the season. The Titans took the lead in minute 28. Lauren Shanks scored off assists from Caelyn Steffens and Heather Dietrich.
The hosts took that 2-1 lead to the locker room at halftime, having outshot the Vikings 12-1 in the first 45 minutes.
The first 30 minutes of the second half were tightly contest. The Titans outshot Augustana by a 6-5 margin and although the Vikings put all five of their attempts on frame, neither team found the back of the net.
In the 82nd minute, Steffens gave Wesleyan some insurance with her eighth goal of the season. Augustana wasn't able to get off a shot the rest of the way.
IWU finished with a 21-6 edge in shots, but the margin was just 7-6 in shots on goal. The Titans took six corners to five for the Vikings and committed eight fouls to seven for its guests.
Junior
Sydney Ion (Aquinas HS, La Crosse, Wis.) recorded four saves for Augustana, while IWU's Kelli McCarthy stopped four Viking shots.

Scott Mejia's club is back at Thorson-Lucken Field on Saturday, October 26 to host Elmhurst in a 1:00 p.m. match.
