Augustana's Sandra Camarillo (19) and Grace
Sigler (11) congratulate each other after Sigler
parlayed a Camarillo corner into the only goal
of the match Saturday. The Vikings downed
Millikin 1-0 at Thorson-Lucken Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Junior Grace Sigler (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) scored the only goal of the match in the 16th minute Saturday, lifting Augustana to a 1-0 victory over Millikin at Thorson-Lucken Field. Coach Scott Mejia's outfit improved to 8-2-2 on the year and 3-2 in the CCIW, while the Big Blue fell to 3-7-2 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Viking keeper Sydney Ion (Aquinas HS, La Crosse, Wis.) recorded all three of her saves in the first 12 minutes of the match. She turned away shots by Faith Fitzsimmons in minutes three and 12 and another by Maddy Wood in the fifth minute.

Meanwhile the hosts' lone attempt in the first 15 minutes came from junior Karissa Gottardo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) and went wide in the eighth minute. However, in the 16th, Sigler's one-timer off a Sandra Camarillo (United Township HS, Silvis, Ill.) corner found the back of the net for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Augustana continued to pressure, forcing Millikin keeper Jennifer Miller to record four saves over the next 20 minutes. By the end of the half, the Vikings had outshot their guests 7-5, including an advantage of 5-3 in shots on goal.

Led by seniors Anna Fank (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) and Hannah Rossi (Downers Grove South HS, Woodridge, Ill.), junior Jenna Dvorak (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) and freshmen Molly Fank (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) and Abbey Kramer (Crystal lake Central HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.), Mejia's defense handled it from there. Augustana limited the Big Blue to just two shots in the second half, neither of which was put on frame. Sarah Weller and Sydney Rudny had their attempts sail wide in the 62nd and 63rd minutes, respectively.

Ion finished with the three saves, as she recorded her fifth complete-game shutout of the season. Miller was credited with six saves.

The final team stats had the Vikings with a 10-7 edge in shots and an advantage of 7-3 in shots on goal. Augustana took nine corners to two for Millikin. Mejia's bunch was whistled for 11 fouls to eight for the Big Blue and each side was issued a caution.

On Wednesday, October 23, the Vikings travel to Bloomington, Illinois to face Illinois Wesleyan in a 7:00 p.m. match.
