Gottardo and Serra teamed up to get Augustana on the board in the 14th minute. The Vikings extended the advantage to 2-0 in the 31st minute, when sophomore
Sandra Camarillo (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) scored her second goal of the season.
The sides went to halftime with Augustana leading 2-0. The Vikings outshot UWP 3-1 in the first period and had an 8-1 advantage in corners.
In the 51st minute, Pioneer Caelyn Steffens tallied her 24th goal of the season off an assist from Ashley Peck to cut the deficit in half. Steffens' goal, which tied her for third in the nation, snapped a streak of 347 consecutive scoreless minutes by the Augustana defense—all with sophomore
Sydney Ion (Aquinas HS, La Crosse, Wis.) in goal.
The Vikings answered in minute 57, when Gottardo assisted on Serra's ninth goal of the season to make it 3-1.
The visitors put the final nail in the coffin when freshman
Marcela Arreguin (Beloit Memorial HS, Beloit, Wis.) tallied her second goal of the season in the 66th minute.
Augustana finished with a 9-6 edge in shots, putting six on frame to four for Platteville. The Vikings also led in corners by a margin of 12-2. Ion recorded three saves and improved to 12-2-3 on the year, moving into eighth place on Augustana's single-season wins list.
The Vikings will play their CCIW and regular season finale on Saturday, October 27, when Carthage visits Thorson-Lucken Field for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. The match will also mark Senior Night for Mejia's squad.
