Meredith Newman was named the head coach of the Augustana women’s lacrosse program in August of 2014. She joined the Vikings after two seasons at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, where she served as the Buccaneers first-ever head coach. She is the second head coach in the history of Augustana’s program.
In 2015, her first season in charge of the Vikings, she guided the team to a 19-2 record, the inaugural CCIW regular season and tournament championships and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament, where Augustana reached the round of 16 before falling to eventual national champion SUNY Cortland. She was named the CCIW’s first-ever Coach of the Year.
Newman’s 2015 Vikings led the nation in scoring, assists and scoring margin and she coached one All-American, four All-Region players and 10 All-CCIW performers.
Newman was named Beloit’s first women’s lacrosse head coach in 2011. She led the Buccaneers to a 4-7 record in their inaugural season of 2013 and her squad improved to 10-7 overall and 6-4 in the Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference this past spring. Her players also excelled in the classroom, compiling a 3.40 cumulative grade point average during her two seasons at Beloit.
A 2009 graduate of Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia, Newman served as an assistant coach at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio in 2010 and 2011. The program’s offensive coordinator, she helped the Ladies put together a 23-9 overall record in two seasons, including a 14-3 mark and a North Coast Athletic Conference co-championship in 2010.
While at Sweet Briar, Newman was a four-year letter winner and two-time team captain for the Vixens. She was named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic team in 2009 and finished her career with 83 goals and 45 assists.
Newman also has coaching experience at the club level, leading Cool Stick and Vibe outfits, and served as an assistant coach at Merestead Sports Camps at both Sweet Briar and Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
