WACO, Texas -- The Augustana Vikings football team continues to receive votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Coaches Poll, after the first week of action this past weekend.
The Vikings cruised past the Simpson Storm on Saturday by a score of 45-14.
Jimmy Makuh earned CCIW Athlete of the Week after completing 16 of 23 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 55 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground, accounting for five total touchdowns in the victory.
Ben Ludlum provided the foundation on the ground. The running back carried the ball 19 times for 146 yards and a touchdown, averaging 7.7 yards per carry.
Tyreke Fortney was Makuh's top target, hauling in six passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns.
Ethan Vrabec added three receptions for 83 yards, and Schlanser added two catches for 32 yards and a touchdown.
Cole Schroeder led the defensive side with seven of his 10 tackles being solo.
Ronde Worrels finished the night with 2.5 tackles for a loss of 14 yards and 1.5 sacks for 13 yards.
