ROCK ISLAND -- Augustana has completed the installation of a new FieldTurf playing surface at Charles D. Lindberg Stadium, marking the latest investment in the student-athlete experience at the Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex.
The project replaces the previous FieldTurf surface installed in 2012 when the Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex opened. Installed at a cost of approximately $600,000, the new surface provides the Vikings with an updated competition field ahead of the 2026 season.
In addition to the new playing surface, Lindberg Stadium features a refreshed field design developed through a collaborative effort between the Augustana football coaching staff and the College's Communications and Marketing Office. The redesign includes bold navy blue end zones accented with gold "AUGUSTANA" and "VIKINGS" lettering, giving the stadium a modern look to showcase the traditional blue and gold.
"The new FieldTurf project represents a positive upgrade to Lindberg Stadium and the Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex, and is another representation of the active investments Augustana College makes to benefit Viking Athletics and our student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Mike Zapolski.
The FieldTurf installation continues Augustana's commitment to providing premier facilities for its student-athletes, coaches and fans. Charles D. Lindberg Stadium serves as the home of Viking football while also hosting track and field events, practices, camps and numerous campus activities throughout the year.
Augustana will unveil the new playing surface when the Vikings return to Lindberg Stadium on Sept. 5 against Simpson. A gallery of photos for the new turf can be viewed HERE.
