DAY ONE RECAP

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Augustana Vikings track and field program concluded competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday as Landon Wierenga and Laina Nelson each represented the Vikings on the national stage.

Wierenga competed in the men's hammer throw after putting together one of the strongest throwing seasons in Division III. Entering the national meet ranked second in the country in the event, he finished tied for 21st on Saturday. Earlier in the week, Wierenga earned Second Team All-America honors in the discus with an 11th-place finish, marking his second appearance at the NCAA Championships during the meet.

Nelson wrapped up her outdoor season in the women's javelin after qualifying for the national championships following a strong campaign in the event. Competing against one of Division III's deepest fields, Nelson recorded her top throw on her final attempt of the afternoon, reaching 37.31m (122-5) to place 21st overall.

The pair helped close out another successful national meet for the Vikings, with Augustana represented in four events throughout the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
