LA CROSSE, Wis. – Charlotte Frere entered Thursday's action at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with the weight of history already behind her. Earlier this month, the nation's top-ranked discus thrower shattered the NCAA Division III all-time record with a mark of 56.59m, breaking a record that had stood untouched for 34 years. On Thursday, she added another chapter to an already historic season.

The two-time defending national champion wasted no time pursuing her third consecutive title. Frere set the tone immediately with what would ultimately stand as the best throw of the day, launching a 51.14m toss on her opening attempt before following with a 49.64m mark in round two. Advancing comfortably to the finals, her first throw remained the high mark, securing an unprecedented third straight NCAA outdoor national championship in the discus.

Indoor and outdoor combined, Frere now owns the sixth individual national title in the history of the Augustana women's track & field program and the fifth for the outdoor season. She also became the first women's track & field student-athlete in program history to capture three consecutive national championships.

On the men's side, Landon Wierenga earned Second Team All-America honors in the discus after placing 11th nationally on Thursday. Wierenga will return to competition on Saturday in the hammer throw, where he enters the weekend as the nation's No. 2-ranked thrower in Division III.
