Five Vikings named in NFF Hampshire Honor Society

IRVING, Texas -- Five senior members of head coach Steve Bell's Augustana football program were named to the National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society, the organization announced April 8. Toby SplittRyan Gustafsson, Ben Ludlum, Levi Burke, and Brett Holcomb were among 23,568 student-athletes from 691 schools recognized nationwide.

Established in 2007, the NFF Hampshire Honor Society honors college football players from all divisions who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher throughout their collegiate careers.

Splitt, a co-captain, earned First Team All-Conference and CSC Academic All-District honors while leading the conference with 103 total tackles, including 70 solo stops. He also ranked fourth in the league in passes defended with six breakups and five interceptions. Split recorded a career-high 19 tackles in the conference opener against nationally ranked Wheaton. A History Education major, he holds a 3.58 GPA.

Gustafsson, a defensive end and Accounting major with a 3.75 GPA, finished the season with 13 total tackles and ranked seventh in the conference with 4.5 sacks. He posted a career-best performance at Elmhurst in October, recording five tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Ludlum, a running back majoring in Finance and Communications with a minor in Economics, carries a 3.80 GPA. He rushed for 617 yards on 125 attempts and added 181 receiving yards on 21 catches. Ludlum ranked fifth in the conference in rushing and placed among the league leaders in scoring, total offense, and all-purpose yards. At Elmhurst, he set season highs with a 34-yard rush, 63 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns.

Holcomb, a tight end, is a Mechanical Engineering major with a 3.38 GPA. Burke, a Chemistry major with a 3.60 GPA, was also recognized as the CCIW RESPECT Award recipient this season.
