WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings softball team split a doubleheader against the No. 17 UW-Whitewater Warhawks on Tuesday. The Vikings fell 5-3 in game one before a 6-5 victory in eight innings in the second game.

GAME ONE

In the top of the fourth, Emma Evans singled to center field and advanced on a groundout before rounding home on a single up the middle by Emily Gad, putting Augie on the board at 5-1. After another scoreless inning for both teams, Olivia Osborne sailed one over the center field to move the difference to 5-2. In the top of the seventh, Madi Bickell closed the game with a home run to left field to conclude the game 5-3.

GAME TWO

In the first inning, A'Rion Lonergan was walked and advanced on a groundout to bring up Osborne, who singled to right field and brought her home to take the early 1-0 advantage. Emily Gad kept the bat hot with a single through the left side, and Lilli Burton followed with a double to right field. With two runners on, Lonergan doubled down the right field line to bring both home and stretch the lead to 3-0. The Warhawks put up their first run in the bottom of the inning.

In the bottom of the third, Whitewater tallied three more to overtake the game 4-3. Both teams were scoreless in the fourth. Addie Garr homered to center field in the first at-bat in the top of the fifth to even the score at 4-4. In the bottom of the inning, the Warhawks regained the advantage, and both teams produced a three-up and three-out sixth inning.

Another home run from Osborne drew the score even at 5-5 in the top of the seventh, and Augie held Whitewater with three straight outs to force an extra inning. In the top of the eighth, CCIW Hitter of the Week, Aubrey Gradin, bombed one straight into center field to get the go-ahead lead. The Vikings produced another three-up and three-down inning to seal the 6-5 victory.
