Softball drops both to Millikin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BETTENDORF, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings softball team dropped the CCIW opener against the Millikin Big Blue on Friday. The Vikings fell 7-4 in game one before losing 11-3 in the second game.

GAME ONE

The Big Blue fired first in the top of the opening inning, but Aubrey Gradin sailed one into center field to even the score at 1-1. Augie took the upper hand in the third inning after another home run from Gradin to bring two home. 

In the bottom of the fifth, A'rion kicked off the inning with a single to the infield before Madi Bickell was walked. With two runners on, Olivia Osborne singled to right field to bring both home to create a 4-1 game. Millikin regained the advantage at the top of the sixth after six runs after a long rain delay, to switch the score to 7-4. Neither team scored in the following inning to allow the Big Blue to take game one.

Gradin led with two hits and batted three runs in. On the mound, Mya Brown pitched 6.2 innings with six strikeouts.

GAME TWO

Millikin gained the early advantage in the opening inning before tallying five more to make it 7-0 heading into the third inning. The Big Blue stretched the game to 9-0 in the bottom of the fourth. 

In the fifth, Emma Schmidt and Lindsay LaVine reached base after a single before Alexis Duke was walked to make bases loaded. Lonergan brought the two lead runners home on a double to right center to get Augie on the board at 9-2. Duke ran home two at-bats later after a groundout to create a 9-3 game. The Big Blue walked it off in the bottom of the inning with two more runs to seal the 11-3 victory.

Four Vikings collected hits, with Lonergan batting in two runs. 

With the two losses, Augie moves to 4-11 on the season and opens CCIW action 0-2. The Vikings will be back in action tomorrow to face the Elmhurst Bluejays.
