Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's volleyball turned away by Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team dropped a 3–0 decision to the Carthage Firebirds on Saturday evening in CCIW play. Augustana showed stretches of aggressive volleyball in each set, but Carthage used late runs to pull away and secure the sweep.

The Vikings opened the match with a strong offensive rhythm in set one, leaning on Aidan Bolen and Alexander Sulewski to generate points on the outside. Colin Schaefer kept the offense balanced, allowing Augustana to stay within striking distance through the middle portion of the frame. A short run midway through the set, highlighted by a pair of kills from Bolen and a point from Tom Lamb, kept things tight before Carthage created separation late to take the opener.

Set two featured one of Augustana's better stretches of the night. The Vikings found success spreading the ball, with Lamb, Cole Clarke, and Ryan Huntington all recording key swings. A mid-set push, sparked by consecutive points from Clarke and a strong finish at the net by Huntington, helped Augustana hang within three points. The Firebirds tightened up down the stretch, however, capitalizing on a late scoring run to edge ahead and take a 2–0 lead.

In the third, Augustana continued to compete and found its most consistent offensive flow. Bolen again led the attack, while Sulewski added key swings during a stretch where the Vikings traded points deep into the set. A late push, including a kill from Huntington and a strong sequence at the net from Lamb, kept the Vikings within reach before Carthage closed out the match.

Bolen, Lamb, and Huntington each finished with six kills to lead a balanced Augustana attack. Lamb and Huntington added an ace apiece, while Clarke paced the Vikings at the net with two total blocks, alongside Lamb and Sulewski. Schaefer dished out 21 assists and added eight digs, matching Huntington for the team lead, with Bolen contributing seven digs.

The loss drops Augustana to 9-10, 2-6 in CCIW play. The Vikings are back on the court on Wednesday, April 1 at Loras. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
