CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Augustana Vikings softball team fell to the Claremont Knights on Tuesday by a score of 4-3.
Both teams remained scoreless in the opening inning before Carleton tallied two in the top of the second to gain the early lead. The Vikings fired back after
Alaina Diaz homered to right field to get on the board at 2-1. Augie drew the score even in the following inning after
Lilli Burton doubled to deep center and rounded home when
Emma Schmidt singled to center field.
In the top of the fourth, the Knights pulled away once more with a 3-2 score. In the first at-bat of the bottom of the sixth,
Madi Bickell sailed one deep into right field to tie the score once again at 3-3. Carleton snatched the upper hand in the top of the seventh to claim the 4-3 victory.Â
Six different Vikings tallied hits, while Schmidt led with two.Â
With the loss, Augie moves to 2-5 on the season and will be back in action on Thursday, March 26, to play two games.Â
