Baseball routs Framingham State

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Augustana Vikings baseball team turned a tight contest into a runaway victory on Saturday afternoon, as what started as a pitcher's duel quickly became a pitcher's nightmare for the Framingham State Rams in an 11-1 win.

After a quiet start from both sides, Augustana broke through in the fourth inning as Riley Hendren reached and later came around to score on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Charlie Bergin. The Vikings continued to build momentum in the sixth, turning a 1-1 game into a 4-1 advantage behind a clutch swing from Ryan Theile. With two runners on, Theile ripped a two-RBI triple to right field before later scoring on a wild pitch to cap a three-run inning.

On the mound, Aidan Conners set the tone early, allowing just one run over five innings while working through multiple baserunners. Brian Fischer followed with three scoreless innings in relief, keeping the Rams off the board and allowing Augustana to carry its lead into the late innings.

The game shifted dramatically, as Augustana erupted in the eighth inning and sent 11 batters to the plate in a relentless offensive charge. Hendren was hit by a pitch to start things off, and Kaileb Hackman followed with a single to put two on. A passed ball moved both runners into scoring position before Bergin was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Theile was then hit by a pitch to force in a run.

The barrage continued, as a wild pitch brought home another run and AJ Macak delivered an RBI single to extend the lead. After two outs, the Vikings refused to slow down as Christian Clark lined a two-RBI single into left, followed by an RBI knock from Ryan Coon. Hendren capped the inning with an RBI single to center, completing a seven-run outburst that broke the game wide open at 11-1.

Hackman led the Vikings with three hits, while Theile drove in three runs and scored twice. Hendren added two hits and two runs scored, while Clark and Macak each delivered RBIs during the explosive eighth inning rally.

With the win, Augustana improves to 11-4 on the season. The spring break trip continues as the Vikings return to action tomorrow against Middlebury at 12:45 p.m.
