Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Carroll pushes past men's basketball

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team erased a significant early deficit and made multiple pushes on Saturday afternoon at Carroll, but ultimately fell 94-84 in a high scoring battle. The Vikings move to 10–11 overall and 5–7 in CCIW play.

Carroll raced out to a fast start, building a 24–5 lead and stretching the margin to 26–7 around the midway point of the first half. Augustana answered with its first major surge, ignited by perimeter shooting. Caden Workman, Ben Jurzak, and Ethan Andre each knocked down a three-pointer during a nine-unanswered-point run, cutting into the deficit and pushing momentum back toward the Vikings. That stretch sparked a response from Augustana, which continued to chip away with balanced scoring and defensive pressure. Cam Atkinson buried a three to pull the Vikings within five, and Augustana kept pressing behind transition baskets and ball movement. The Vikings closed the half strong, trimming the deficit to 42–35 at the break after trailing by as many as 19.

Augustana carried that momentum into the second half, opening with a fast-break layup from Andre Klaver before continuing to attack downhill. Carroll briefly pushed the lead back into double figures, but the Vikings once again answered. Marieon Anderson scored inside to steady the offense, while Workman connected on a pair of three-pointers during a key second-half stretch to keep Augustana within striking distance.

As the game shifted into the final minutes, Augustana made its strongest push of the half. Anderson took over offensively, scoring in transition, attacking the paint, and converting at the free-throw line as the Vikings closed to single digits with just fifty-three seconds remaining. Despite the final rally, Carroll sealed the game at the line in the closing seconds.

Anderson led Augustana with 20 points, adding four rebounds and three assists. Workman and Jurzak each scored 13 points, while Jake Willems provided a spark off the bench with 10 points. The Vikings shot 49.2 percent from the field and knocked down 11 three-pointers, scoring 34 points in the paint and 17 fast-break points in the losing effort.

Augustana is back at the Roy J. Carver Center when they take on North Park for the final time this season. That game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. opening tip.
