ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season, defeating the Culver-Stockton Wildcats 9-6 on Saturday.

In the opening period, the Vikings scored four goals and held the Wildcats scoreless. Becca Lacina found the back of the net first at 6:57. Madison Langewisch followed with one of her own with 2:49 on the clock, and again a minute later off a pass by Em Dornbusch. With 44 seconds on the clock, Colleen Chiavola scored after a caused turnover by Leah Greiber to make a 4-0 score after the opening 15 minutes of play.

The Vikings continued the momentum with a quick goal by Langewisch, with Lacina notching the assist to make a five-point gap. After a scoreless five minutes, Elena Bechard grabbed her first goal of the day off a pass by Greiber. Culver-Stockton tallied two goals in the final three minutes, but Augie maintained the 6-2 lead entering the halftime break.

Returning to action, the Wildcats put up two fast goals to get within two points, but Bechard tallied her second shot off a pass by Greiber to make a 7-4 score. Both teams remained scoreless until Culver-Stockton found a successful shot to create a 7-5 game heading into the final period.

In the fourth, the Wildcats drew the difference within one before Langewisch pulled the gap back to two in a woman-up situation off a pass by Jackie McNair. The teams traded shots with Greiber scoring her own goal in a woman-up play in the final 10 seconds to seal the 9-6 victory.

Langewisch led the team with four goals on six shots on goal, along with four ground balls, won four draw controls, and caused three turnovers. Bechard followed with two goals on three shots on goal, and Greiber notched two assists. Eva Karjalahti collected six saves in her 60 minutes in goal.

With the win, Augie moves to 2-2 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 24 to host Cornell.
