Box Score 1 ST. PAUL, Minn -- The Augustana Vikings women's water polo team earned two wins on Saturday at the Macalester Invite. The Vikings defeated the VMI Keydets 12-11 and the Grove City Wolverines 24-7.
In the opening quarter, Aniter Rodgers found the back of the net first to grab the early lead. VMI followed with two of their own to overtake the game 2-1. Braeylin Hill drew the score even with 2:22 on the clock to draw the score even. The Keydets followed with two goals to lead 4-2 after eight minutes of play.
VMI collected three more in the second period before Augie found the back of the net two times in the final minute of the first half. Successful shots came from
Emma Blezien and
Abigail Gatlin to trail 6-4 entering the halftime break.Â
Returning to action,
Olivia Parry and Blezien tied the score at 6-6. The teams traded shots to draw the score even once more. The Keydets put up two more before Carli Udocivh put one in the back of the net with 2:39 on the clock. VMI tallied two more to the score sheet before Maya Biiela scored the final shot of the quarter to make a 12- 9 score.Â
In the fourth quarter, both teams rallied points before Augie collected two. The Keydets tallied one more, but the Vikings followed with four in tw minutes to seal the 12-11 victory.
Blezien and Gatlin led the team with three goals, while
Susan Palmentera-Reid saved six shots in goal.Â
In game two, Augustana outscored the Wolverines 6-3 with five different individuals tallying a shot, while Biela grabbed two. The Vikings scored seven in the second period while holding Grove City to zero to lead 14-7.
Returning to action, the teams traded shots before Augie found back-to-back shots. Both teams rallied shots once again, with Grove City collecting the two shots before Ella Jo Fay grabbed the final shot to make a 17-6 game.Â
In the final quarter, Augie secured the first five goals from five different people. The Wolverines found the back of the net, but the Vikings sealed the big victory with back-to-back shots by Jo Fay.
Four different Vikings grabbed three goals, with
Jillian Hemming saving three shots, while
Eleni Nicoloudes secured two saves.Â
With the two wins, Augie moves to 4-1 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Macalester Invite.Â
