ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - For the first time in 11 days, Augustana College women's soccer (5-5-3, 0-3-1) was at Thorson-Lucken Field on Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup against Knox College (7-7, 4-2). Augie took the lead within five minutes of kickoff on their way to a 3-1 win over the Prairie Fox.
Inside the Box Score
How it Happened
First Half
Both squads put a shot-on-goal within the first four minutes of the game, but it was Mowry who started the scoring with her second shot of the game going in at 4:20. Augie continued to challenge the Knox goalkeeper, putting up another three shots-on-goal in the seven minutes following Mowry's goal.
Schinker made her second save of the match at 14:48 to preserve Augustana's 1-0 lead. The Vikings remained in control then, putting another trio of shots on frame between 18:23 and 25:36, but none found the back of the net. After Schinker made another save at the 27:00 mark, Swanson would a second goal to Augie's total at 34:04.
Less than three minutes from heading to halftime up by a pair, Augie saw their lead cut in half when the Prairie Fire cashed in a shot at 42:24 to make it 2-1, which is where the score stood once halftime hit.
Second Half
It was all Augustana to open the second half as the Vikings recorded six shots in the first 15 minutes. Unfortunately for Augie, only one of those shots found the net and it was saved. Augie's defense was also top notch as they held Knox shotless for the first 41 minutes of the second half. Meanwhile, the Viking offense continued to work, putting another pair of shots on goal, both of which were saved.
The Vikings would find an insurance marker at 86:50 thanks to a Moscovich goal. Knox would break their shotless streak less than a minute after the Vikings scored their third goal, but Schinker stood tall, made the save, and put a cap on Augie's 3-1 win over Knox.
