Women's basketball says "ABC: A Blowout in Carver!"

ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana Vikings women's basketball team used a commanding first half to cruise past North Park, winning 72-40 on Wednesday night. The victory improves Augustana to 10-9 overall and 5-5 in the CCIW.

Augustana jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first four minutes, fueled by early scoring from Cali Papez and Paige Melton, with Tia Lewis adding a basket. Giulia Milazzo's two free throws extended the margin to 13 before North Park finally scored. After trading buckets, the Vikings closed the first quarter with a 6-0 run to take a 21-4 lead.

The second quarter saw continued defensive pressure and efficient offense. A 12-2 Augustana run, highlighted by six points from Audrey Erickson, pushed the advantage further. Kadence Tatum sealed the half by scoring five points from the free-throw line in the final 85 seconds, sending the Vikings into the locker room with a commanding 46-11 lead.

After halftime, Augustana kept the pressure on. Erickson and Lewis hit early three-pointers to help build a 60-21 cushion entering the fourth quarter.  Lewis opened the final period with a basket, and Sophia Klacik added two three-pointers to account for half of Augustana's fourth-quarter scoring. North Park outscored the Vikings 19-12 in the period, but the game was long decided.

Lewis led the way for Augustana with 15 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Erickson and Melton each chipped in 12 points, while Papez cleaned up on the glass with a team-high nine rebounds. Every Vikings player who saw more than five minutes of action scored at least two points.

The Vikings are off this weekend and return to action on Wednesday, February 4, when they travel to face North Central. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
