Men's volleyball opens up 2026 campaign

RIVER FOREST – Kicking off their 2026 campaign, the Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team hit the road against Dominican. The Vikings fell in three sets, 25-21, 25-18, and 25-21.

Augustana stayed competitive throughout the night, keeping each set close. In the first set the Vikings traded points with Dominican early, keyed by a pair of early kills from Ryan Huntington and strong defense from Cole Clarke. Augustana led 8-7 before Dominican used a mid set stretch to pull ahead, with the Stars closing the frame 25-21.

The Vikings continued to battle in the second set, taking an early 7-5 lead over the hosts. Augustana battled back down 16-10 to close the gap to two points, taking advantage of attack errors by Dominican and benefiting from contributions from Bryce Lawson and Alexander Sulewski, but the Stars again secured the set 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead.

In the third set, the Vikings found themselves in an early 7-2 hole and struggled to rebound. Trailing 21-12, Sulewski helped the Vikings go on a 9-3 run, planting a well timed kill to begin the rally. Huntington added three kills in the run, but a late service error gave the home team the win.

Huntington led the Vikings offensively with seven kills on the night, while Lawson added six. Sulewski chipped in four kills and an ace, while Colin Schaefer directed the offense with 16 assists. Defensively, Cole Clarke anchored the back row with 11 digs, as Augustana totaled 38 digs as a team.

The Vikings are back in action on Saturday, January 24 against Concordia-Chicago, hosted at Dominican. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
