USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Augustana Vikings men's water polo dropped the final game of the Air Force Rare Air Invite on Sunday to the Air Force Falcons by a score of 17-10.
In a neck-and-neck first period, the Air Force outscored Augie 4-3 to take the upper hand after the first eight minutes of play. Goals from the Vikings came from
James Davis,
Alden Brinkmeier, and
Mark Addison. In the second period, the Falcons tallied four to stretch the gap to 8-3. At 3:27,
Stevan Rasic found the back of the net and tallied another a minute and a half later to create a 9-5 game. The Air Force put up another point to close out the period with a 10-5 score.
Both teams went back and forth with successful shots in the third period, with both of Augie's shots coming from Addison. In the final three minutes of play, the Falcons scored twice to make it 14-7. In the final period, the teams created a 3-3 margin with Rasic and Addison notching goals for the Vikings, but the Air Force took the game 17-10.
Addison and Rasic led the team with four goals apiece, while Brinkmeier and
Ben Symington notched three assists apiece.
Declan Hutton stopped 12 attempts in his 32 minutes in the net.
With the loss, Augie moves to 0-3 on the season and will be back in action on Sept. 20 to host McKendree.
