ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team dropped a competitive matchup to the UW-Stevens Point Pointers by a score of 2-1.
In a defensive first half, the Pointers outshot Augie 4-3, with one of the Vikings' attempts being on goal. Shots by the home team came from
Viktor Nilsson,
Victor Arcombe, and
Jacob Roffman. UW-Stevens Point found the back of the net twice within two minutes of each other to lead 2-0 entering the halftime break.
Returning to the field, both teams fended off shots until
Caleb Hass headed a shot in the back of the net off a corner kick by
Alex Sanchez Collado. The Vikings attempted three more shots in the final 20 minutes of play, but were unable to take the lead.
Eight different Vikings notched shots, with Ibra Mawala leading with three. William Gabrielsson stopped three shots in his 90 minutes in goal.
With the loss, Augie moves to 0-1-2 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday to take on Knox on the road.
