Men's soccer takes down Coe

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team defeated the Coe College Kohawks on Wednesday by a score of 1-0.

In the opening period, both teams showed a defensive battle, with each team only seeing one shot apiece. Ismail Bennani got a look on goal before Javi Landin secured the lone goal after he struck high left for an unassisted finish at the 25::59 mark. Augustana continued to press forward with quality passing and attacking play, forcing the Kohawks into defensive action across the period. Coe earned seven first-half corner kicks but was unable to capitalize, as the Vikings entered halftime with the 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, both sides battled for momentum, with Coe holding a narrow 3-2 shot edge. The Kohawks found looks on goal late, but William Gabrielsson secured four saves in goal to keep the clean sheet intact. Sebastian Trujillo led the Vikings with two shots on goal, while Landin, Ismail Bennani, and Jacob Roffman each added one.

Overall, Augie outshot Coe 6-5 and held a 5-2 advantage in shots on target despite the Kohawks' 7-0 corner kick margin. Five different athletes fired shots in the win, with Sebastian Trujillo notching two shots on goal, while Gabrielsson blocked two attempts in his 90 minutes in goal.

With the win, Augustana improves to 2-3-2 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 27, for a conference matchup against North Park.
