INDIANOLA, Ind. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the Simpson Storm on Friday in their season opener.

In the opening half, Simpson attempted three shots within the opening 10 minutes before Matt Donaghey found the back of the net at 10:02 to take the early advantage. The Storm out-shot Augie 8-2, but the Vikings led 1-0 after 45 minutes of play. William Gabrielsson saved five out of the eight attempts in the net.

In another defensive half, both teams went back-and-forth with shots before Simpson sneaked in a successful shot on goal. Ismail Bennani, Alex Sanchez Collado, and Fer Cuahquentzi made an effort to take the upper hand in the final 20 minutes, but the game ended in a 1-1 deadlock. 

Gabrielsson ended the game with seven saves out of eight shots on goal in his 90 minutes in the net. 

With the tie, Augie starts the season with a 0-0-1 record and will travel to Monmouth on Tuesday.
